An upgraded version of an old stalwart, the new Brut features a balanced-piston first stage and a sort of elliptically shaped second stage with no user adjustments.

Performance:

On the breathing machine, the Brut pumped out excellent performance at the RMV/depth that represents typical recreational diving, and got good to excellent breathing-simula-tor scores. Test divers rated the Brut middle of the pack among regs. While it offered decent ease of breathing in the swimming position, in the heads-up position the reg labored a bit. The purge was efficient in spite of a stiff cover, and test divers liked the mouthpiece.

Bottom Line:

The Brut is sold as an entry-level reg, and for the price it offers good performance.
