1. Help Local Reefs by Getting Your Coral Nursery Transplanting Specialty in St. Lucia

Across all three Sandals resorts in St. Lucia, guests can aid the efforts of CLEAR Caribbean at the Sandals Foundation by joining locals for eco activities that play out with the beautiful backdrop of the Pitons.

PADI designed a distinctive specialty course–the Coral Nursery Transplanting Specialty–for the Sandals resorts here during which certified guests can learn how to clean and prepare coral fragments for transplantation before completing two dives to attach coral fragments to underwater environments built to help local reefs flourish. To date, the project is responsible for outplanting more than 16,000 coral fragments in St. Lucia–and every piece counts toward a healthier tomorrow.

2. Get Your Reef Rescue Diver Distinctive Specialty Course in the Beautiful Bahamas

Florida’s Perry Institute for Marine Science originally developed the PADI-certified Reef Rescue Diver Distinctive Specialty Course at Sandals Royal Bahamian to better equip divers with the knowledge and skills needed for coral restoration diving.

Certified divers at the oceanfront resort learn from instructors about the threats to coral reefs and why nurseries are integral to reef restoration. Next, they’ll gear up for two open water dives to learn how to maintain underwater coral nurseries and potentially even attempt outplanting corals onto reefs around Nassau. For those with limited time, the abbreviated Reef Rescue Experience includes an overview on the importance of coral restoration and a single coral nursery dive. Mark your calendar for 2026, when Sandals Royal Curaçao will launch a similar coral restoration program for guests.

3. Help Control the Invasive Lionfish Population During Dives on the Reefs of Jamaica

A stay at the family-friendly Beaches Negril comes with an exciting opportunity for certified divers to learn to hunt one of the most problematic fishes plaguing Caribbean reefs. The resort’s PADI-certified dive team leads lionfish-culling dives during which you’ll learn how to safely destroy this invasive species originally from the Indo-Pacific region. Guest interested in tasting new dishes can even request resort chefs to cook up their catch. This is available at select resorts and subject to availability.

4. Learn About Endangered Sea Turtles During Conservation Tours in Jamaica, Curaçao and Grenada

Funding from the Sandals Foundation & Island Routes, supports environmental education, outreach and other sea turtle conservation efforts across the Caribbean, where key nesting sites for endangered leatherback and hawksbill turtles are found. At Sandals resorts in Jamaica, Curaçao and Grenada, guests don’t even need to be dive certified to get a first-hand look at one of the marine world’s most beloved marine species. From June to November each year, thousands of tours help build awareness for these creatures through nest excavations and releases at beaches near the resorts.
