The Garmin Descent S1 buoy builds on Garmin’s SubWave sonar technology to bridge the gap between surface and underwater communication. Divers using compatible Descent dive computers paired with a T2 transceiver benefit from an expanded line-of-sight transmission range, enabling more reliable connectivity during dives.

Networked divers can exchange preset two-way messages and view critical data such as tank pressure, depth, distance and direction from up to 328 feet (100 meters) away. Surface users can join the network by connecting to the buoy via Wi-Fi and the Garmin Dive app, gaining access to the same communication and monitoring capabilities.

In addition to messaging, the buoy provides real-time diver tracking. It triangulates each diver’s relative position and combines that data with GPS to display their location on the surface. Divers can also navigate back to the buoy using a unique compass heading generated by their dive computer.

Compact and portable, the buoy weighs just 2 pounds and measures 8 by 5.3 inches, with a battery life of up to 15 hours on a single charge.
